Adjustment Needed

Times change and you have to adjust to it. Sometimes the old ways don't always work as well as they did in the past. It might be due to a personnel change, a cash flow change or even a policy change. Sometimes all you can do is accept the change and do your best to reach your goal.

That doesn't mean tear it all down and start from scratch. Far from it. Sometimes all you need is a different approach.

The Los Angeles Galaxy soccer club had to make the adjustment when one of their world-class midfielders decided to retire. Gone are the so-called glory days when a 40-yard precision pass would lead to a score. Yet they didn't have to start over with 26 new players, they just had to utilize the strengths of the players that remained. Employing a Tiki-taka strategy, the Galaxy use ball control and multiple small passes to score goals:

BBC1's "Doctor Who" switched actors in the lead role. Instead of doing nothing and hoping for the best, they went on a promotional World Tour, which was so successful they didn't even have to stop at this year's Comic-Con:

So what does this have to do with Pretty Vacant? Some people are good at writing. Some are good artists. A very few can do both well. I'm not one of them. I have to find artists to draw my book, relying on my organizational skills to publish it at conventions. I have had to make adjustments along the way. I've taken advice when I thought it was good (Kickstarter), and ignored it when I thought it was bad. And now we have Pretty Vacant: London Calling.

I don't know what will happen next year, but I know that I will try to have Pretty Vacant: London Calling 2 published. I just have to make the adjustment in order for it to happen.
