Here’s The Pitch… And There It Goes!

“Pretty Vacant is about how mad scientists make money to fund their evil experiments.”

I was asked by an entertainment company a couple years ago to pitch a high-tech, damsel-in-distress thriller in a single sentence. The above sentence was my response. They thought about it for an eternity (estimated time: ten seconds), and then someone said, “Tell us more.”

It was then that I knew I passed their initial test: I didn’t bore them!

I proceeded to tell my story idea of the Still Life Corporation kidnapping pretty ladies as “body molds” for their mannequin lines and how the protagonist Gigi fights back wearing nothing but a skin-tight bikini and despite having only a baseball as a weapon. However, it seemed anticlimactic. I already knew they liked it.

They didn’t like it enough to green light it (too expensive to film, I was told), but I like Pretty Vacant enough to try and publish it as a comic book. My friends like it enough to try to have PV printed in time for Comic-Con in San Diego. And all of this happened because I was able to sum up PV in one simple sentence!

Gigi takes charge!

That’s how Pretty Vacant started!
